MW01 – Certification by Analysis of Safety-Critical Composite Structures – Barriers, Challenges and Opportunities
Description:
Following on from previous workshops organised at the ICCM21, (Xi’an 2027), ICCM22 (Melbourne 2019), ICCM23 (Belfast 2023) and ICCM24 (Baltimore, 2025), the ICCM25 workshop will feature a series of invited presentations and a panel session with contributions from industry, regulators, and academia. The aim is to discuss and define a define a cross-sector view on the need for modernisation of routes to demonstrate compliance with composites regulations, in particular viable routes to reduce reliance on physical testing at various levels in the building block approach (testing pyramid) and move towards a new culture of virtual testing supported by reduced physical testing, and Certification by Analysis.
Session Lead:
Chair: Richard Butler, University of Bath, UK
Co-Chair: Ole Thomsen, University of Bristol, UK -
MW02 – Translating AI Research into Industrial Impact for Composite Manufacturing Workshop
Description:
While recent advances in AI and data driven methods offer powerful solutions for materials development, manufacturing scalability, and sustainability, a clear gap remains between academic innovation and industrial adoption. This invited speaker mini-workshop at ICCM will showcase mid TRL research, demonstrators, and case studies that translate advanced methods into deployable tools and manufacturing workflows. The session will bring together academic and industrial leaders to highlight high impact, translational research, with the objectives of strengthening industry–academia dialogue, articulate clear value propositions, and accelerate real world impact within the composites community.
Session Lead:
Chair: Dr. Giuseppe Dell’Anno, National Composites Centre, Bristol, UK
Co-Chair: Dr. Maureen Tan, A*STAR, Singapore
